Family Advocacy

The Arc invites you to take action! (New October 31)

Programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) are lifelines for families, older adults and people with disabilities. SNAP feeds about 42 million people, including 4 million people with disabilities. WIC supports nearly 7 million women, infants and young children. Even short disruptions in food assistance can harm a child’s nutrition and development and leave families without stability. Without these programs, millions could face hunger. Congress has the power to prevent this crisis. Send a message now urging them to take action today to protect food assistance programs before it’s too late. Show me more.

Federal Government Shutdown: What People with Disabilities Should Know from the Arc

At 12:01 a.m. on October 1, the federal government shut down because Congress did not approve funding for Fiscal Year 2026. Many federal government agencies and programs that rely on annual funding will be paused, and many people with disabilities and their families want to know how this affects benefits and services. Today, the bottom line is: Social Security payments continue. Medicaid and Medicare coverage stay in place. Some casework may slow. October SNAP benefits are expected. A longer shutdown adds uncertainty for later months. For more information, read The Arc US’s Full Overview.
