Founded in 1893, Cotting School meets the unique needs of students with a broad range of learning and communication disabilities, physical challenges and complex medical conditions. Our Collaborative Care Model emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to supporting each student’s progress and integrates assistive technology and therapies in the classroom and out in the community.
Our highly skilled teachers, therapists and direct care staff work as a team to help students achieve their highest learning potential and level of independence. Programs include individualized instruction, pre-vocational and vocational skill development, behavioral health support, health services, a science lab and other curriculum-based programming, along with an array of enrichment and sports activities after school hours.
As a regional school, it’s important for our students to have the opportunity to explore their community, interests, relationships and extracurricular learning. All of these are truly inclusive, full-participation experiences, from playing team sports to skiing at Mount Sunapee to hanging out with friends at our two-lane candlepin bowling alley.
We regularly offer after school programs and weekend sports that draw families to the sidelines, as well as unique events that are long-standing traditions at Cotting, like Spirit Week, the Senior Experience and a glamorous prom.
No matter what your vision for your future may be, we can support it—whether it’s increasing your life skills and independence, getting your high school diploma or taking a college course.
Because of the wide range of needs among our students, there is no “one size fits all” curriculum at Cotting. The content and materials we use are based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, mastery of the skills outlined in each student’s IEP and tailored to each of their individual needs and abilities.

Cotting Consulting is an outreach program that delivers solutions for students in their school environment. We serve over 30 different Massachusetts school districts and collaboratives, providing expertise to clinicians and educators in the field.
Our work centers around technology-focused evaluations, consultation and professional development. The team is made up of eight consulting clinicians, with the recent addition of a special educator who provides curriculum instruction and support for educators.
