Curriculum & Instructional Programming

No matter what your vision for your future may be, we can support it—whether it’s increasing your life skills and independence, getting your high school diploma or taking a college course.

Because of the wide range of needs among our students, there is no “one size fits all” curriculum at Cotting. The content and materials we use are based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, mastery of the skills outlined in each students’ IEP and tailored to each of their individual needs and abilities.

Our educators use a combination of whole group, small group and individualized instructional methods to make sure skills and content are at the appropriate level for students, yet remain challenging and engaging. We excel at finding solutions to barriers to learning through innovation, adaptation, consultation and hands-on practice.

In addition, we work to ensure that no classroom is an island. Our teachers regularly collaborate by sharing ideas and resources—even across content areas and program levels. Instructional coaches and supervising administrators, who are a regular presence in the classroom, also provide support, and teachers new to Cotting have the added benefit of our mentorship program.

We believe we can figure out a solution to any barrier to learning, and so we innovate, adapt, consult and continue to learn together. We provide a safe space to take risks and expand possibilities.

We innovate, adapt, and problem-solve every day. We plan lessons, set goals and find solutions in non-traditional and inventive ways. We think out of the box and provide a safe space to take risks and expand possibilities.

Extended School Year

Our extended year program enables students who are eligible, based on their IEP, to build on the skills and knowledge they gain during the regular school year and maintain them during the summer.
