Why Support Cotting School
“Will you, gentle reader, bring your friends to see the School? They will be amply rewarded.” – Cofounder Dr. Augustus Thorndike
Cotting School is forever grateful for 125 years of thoughtful, generous leadership that has made the school successful for over a century. A spirit of giving lies in the fabric of our mission and history. Donated basement space in Boston’s Back Bay enabled us to open our doors for the first time in 1894. Mary Perry, the very first teacher and superintendent, was a volunteer. Countless others have donated their time and treasure over the years, putting Cotting School at the forefront of special education. Even today, tuition dollars simply do not cover the cost of a Cotting education, and we rely on that same generosity to carry out our mission: to enable students with special needs to achieve their highest learning potential and level of independence.
We welcome you learn more about our history, read about some of our outstanding teachers and students, and hopefully plan a visit today to see what Cotting School is all about.
