As an RN, Amy Romano could work anywhere: a hospital, clinic, or nursing home just to name a few. But as she reflects back on her five years at Cotting, she feels grateful. “This is a rewarding, happy place. The students want to be here, and they want to learn. I feel fortunate to be a nurse at Cotting School.”
Since childhood, Amy knew she wanted to work with children, but was deciding between teaching and nursing. After seeing a nurse take care of her sick grandmother, she knew the answer. “I had heard some great things about Cotting, so I looked into it after I graduated from nursing school. What I found was a team atmosphere where people supported each other.”
Amy is part of a medical staff that enables some of our students to attend school with their peers. The high-quality, on-site care ensures that students are treated professionally, and can maximize time with their teachers and peers in the classroom. Amy and her staff are also in constant communication with many of our parents. She loves to share with them the growth she witnesses with students over time. “Sometimes students are very shy with me at first, and don’t engage much. But over time, they open up. Being a part of that progress is awesome.”
