October is here – and though many people may be aware that it is Disability Awareness month, some might not realize that it is also International AAC Awareness month.  The goal of AAC Awareness month is to raise public understanding of Augmentative and Alternative Communication and recognize the vital role these systems play in giving people a voice. Nike FlyEase Sneaker Has New Features!

In 2015, at the request of a young man with cerebral palsy, Nike designed a shoe meant for people with disabilities that used a wraparound zipper system and larger opening for the foot.  Matthew Walzer wrote the company, saying “At 16 years old, I am able to completely dress myself, but my parents still have to tie my shoes. Extended Year Program at Cotting is underway!

Our students and staff are making the most of their time at Cotting this summer!  The extended year program typically includes some time for students to try new activities that enhance and complement the school-year curriculum.  See below for a few examples of the great things happening in our classrooms during week one! In the art room, Mr. Ironfield is currently teaching a lesson on “Perspective Self-Portraits.” Over in the auditorium, Ms. Hodson leads a class through a Yoga routine!
