“What’s in your heart that you’d love to tell the world?”
This is how author Michael Levin began his workshop with a classroom of Cotting students last week. Levin is a New York Times best-selling author who has written, co-written, or ghostwritten over 100 books, eleven of which are national bestsellers.
He has been to Cotting several times to hold writing workshops with our students, and his passion for storytelling is obvious. His workshop allows students to think creatively, and he let them guide the conversation. “Who is the main character in your story? What do they do? And what are they passionate about?” He let the students’ suggestions build the story.
Levin first visited Cotting School to cover a story for the Huffington Post about the Alvin Ailey dancers, who were performing in our auditorium. He was so moved by his time here that he wanted to come back. “I love the kids’ hearts. I love how much they respect one another. It’s a privilege to be a part of this community.”
