Five officers from the City of Waltham Police Department and the State Police visited Cotting on July 8th to speak to Lower and Middle School students about their jobs as part of this summer’s theme, “Everyday Heroes.” They spoke of the routine matters that come up in their work, as well as the increasingly difficult situations that make their jobs somewhat more complicated than they were even five years ago. Two of the officers are related to Cotting alumnus, Kevin Mahoney, Class of 2007; his father and uncle both work in the police department of the City of Waltham.

Each police officer answered student questions from a greatly interested audience. Then students were invited outside to meet the German Shepherd that works with Officer Joe Hancock, and to sit in the state police cruiser and on the state police motorcycle. It proved a popular afternoon.
