Specialties

  Occupational
and Physical Therapy

Therapists and students work together to develop gross and fine motor skills which will improve students' balance, mobility and perceptual abilities. Activities may be as practical as maneuvering a new wheelchair or as enjoyable as shooting baskets, but all strengthen skills which are used in the classroom and in life.
  Educational Technology
Communication devices give voice to students who are otherwise unable to express their needs. A keyboard with word prediction software enables another student to compose a report. Computerized books allow a student with compromised motor skills to participate in a literacy activity. These technologies provide our students with a rich foundation of success essential to greater independence.

  Counseling and Guidance
The school psychologist works with individual students and small groups to identify and address self-confidence, self-esteem, and social issues. Also, upper school students and their families work with the guidance director to develop plans for transitioning to the community after graduation.

  Communication Therapy
Here, technology and training come together to help children communicate effectively. Students who are nonverbal may learn to use augmentative communication systems, ranging from simple picture boards to personal speaking devices. Others develop language skills by discussing current events or writing a sequel to a favorite story.
