Goals and Philosophy

Project Bridges is an experience-based learning program that offers students with disabilities opportunities to examine work environments at community worksites for up to one semester at a time. Students are transported by school van to off-campus worksites, where they are assisted by job coaches or community employers. Students use this opportunity to explore realistic career options.

Project Bridges helps students develop:

  • effective communication skills

  • positive relationships with supervisors and co-workers

  • good work habits and attitudes

  • improved self-esteem

  • options for future career paths

Program Opportunities

Students participate in an array of vocational experiences that help them to identify their interests and strengths while developing their skills and general knowledge of the world of work.  Students may work in such settings as banks, department stores, hospitals, nursing homes, day care centers, greenhouses and/or cafeterias. This exposure to a wide variety of work settings enables students to find the types of work and environment that best match their interests and skills.
