“As soon as we walked into the building, we knew Cotting was the right place for us,” says Jamie, mother of Colin and Riley, born a year apart and each diagnosed with FG Syndrome. “Each boy has different challenges, and Cotting has met them as individuals, where he needs to be met.” Their father, Kevin, agrees. “They are thriving at Cotting. I can’t say enough about how well Colin and Riley have done. Riley is a go-getter, learning and changing. Colin loves his classes and works hard. The biggest thing is the dedication of the teachers. They make it easier for children to learn, and they have worked with us on everything our boys have needed to do.” Both parents agree that they “can’t say enough about the school.” Jamie adds, “Cotting supports me as a parent as well as my children. Their priority is always the boys, and their suggestions are extremely helpful. We are tremendously lucky to be at Cotting!” |

“Our daughter, Melanie, was given a bleak diagnosis at two weeks of age. We were told Early Intervention and physical therapy would help, but there were no guarantees. At Cotting, Melanie’s progress has exploded! Her sign language vocabulary has increased from 10 signs to 100; she is learning to walk. We work together with the physical therapists to incorporate what they are doing for her at school with what we do at home. We communicate often with her team, which adds up to the amazing progress Melanie is making in the Preschool. What an extraordinary place! Now she is also learning things such as colors and shapes; the outlook is much more promising as her language emerges.”

Susannah

Susannah “had a hard time as a baby; major cardiac defects resulted in two open heart surgeries. No one knew what her capabilities would be, but now at 19, she just gets better and stronger, surpassing everyone’s expectations. Initially, she was very shy; it took a full two years at Cotting before she would initiate a conversation. Now she’s on the phone after school chatting with her friends; Susannah has come out of her shell! Academically, she continues to grow, reaching new levels of achievement. This year she takes great pride in her job at Home Goods. Chorus has been a huge hit for her, as has the prom. Skills for Life class in the summer has made her more confident and comfortable being away from home overnight. If only my other children were as happy as Susannah!” |
Sarah

| "Sarah’s nine school years here have been a time of celebration. I like seeing my child appreciated for her strengths and accepted for who she is, just as she is. I have watched her grow up with so much self confidence. Sarah feels pride in her accomplishments; she feels successful and she knows the joy of learning. Cotting is a community of families, not just of students.” |
