Upper School Summer Classes
Summer Adapted Living Skills Experience (SALSE) – Students who meet the eligibility requirements will participate in experiences designed to provide them with the opportunity to develop and expand career awareness and adaptive living skills in real life settings. There are four components to this experience: academic classroom instruction, community-based instruction, vocational awareness and weekend residential experience.
Skills For Life – Students who meet the eligibility requirements will participate in experiences designed to provide them with the opportunity to develop and expand career awareness and adaptive living skills through classroom and community-based instruction. There are four components to this experience: academic classroom instruction, community-based instruction, vocational awareness and weekend residential experience.
Community Work Program – Students who meet the eligibility requirements will participate in off campus work experiences designed to provide them with the opportunity to develop and expand career awareness and vocational skills. Students in this program will spend time at Cotting in the morning preparing for work, approximately three hours at their work site and then return to Cotting for reflection, discussion and preparation for the next work day. Cotting staff will work as job coaches at the various sites. Due to space limitations, only students over the age of 19 will be considered for this program.
Vocational Explorations (Horticulture and Hospitality) – Students participating in this experience will choose from one of four vocational themes. All activities and instruction will support this theme and include integration of academic classroom instruction, community-based instruction, and vocational education.
Hospitality
Students who choose this theme will participate in work-related activities designed to target skills relating to:

Cafe

Offer beverages and food items throughout the day for sit down service

Assemble and sell “snack baskets”

Take phone orders and provide delivery service

Operate the cash register

Ice Cream Shop

Follow recipes & operate ice cream making machines

Offer cups, cones and toppings

Sell bottled water

Horticulture
Students who choose this option will participate in work-related activities including, but not limited to:

Watering and caring for plants

Repotting plants

Painting and decorating pots

Make quality craft items to be sold at the Wares Fair

Wait on customers and sell plants
