Is
Cotting right for my child?

The
atmosphere is total acceptance.
Cotting's prevailing
atmosphere is one of total acceptance, nurtured
by supportive peers and adults, that lessens the
negative impact of each student's disability. Cotting
provides students with opportunities for exposure
to peer or adult role models with similar disabilities,
abilities, concerns, feelings, and goals. Each
child has opportunities for camaraderie, sharing
joys and frustrations in friendships that often
last a lifetime.
The
program is comprehensive.
At Cotting, children with varied intellectual,
physical, social, and emotional abilities are provided
a comprehensive education program. Cotting provides
a multi-phase curriculum with three primary characteristics:
diagnostic, remedial, and transitional. The lower,
middle, and upper school programs benefit from
these common traits that exist in the School's
overall structure and in the academic program.
At enrollment, each student participates in an
intense diagnostic assessment where specific strategies
are identified to enhance the student's academic,
social, emotional, and physical well-being.
The
focus is on success.
Cotting is different: quite simply, we give each child opportunities to succeed.
Staff members focus on abilities—what a child can do becomes the foundation for
an individualized plan. Because our faculty to student ratios are so low, programs
and activities are tailored to each child’s individual learning style and ability.
And each child can receive the intense help and support he or she needs to succeed.
When children experience success, they have the confidence to try new things
and conquer new obstacles.
