Cotting led the fight to change attitudes toward children with disabilities. While other schools denied access to disabled students or students were racially segregated, Cotting opened its doors to African-American children in the 19th century. The above photo was taken in 1898.

The Cotting School is committed to providing equal opportunities for all qualified individuals regardless of
race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, political affiliation, disability, military status, or sexual orientation.

All personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, terminations, promotions, transfers, work assignments, and
compensation are based on qualifications and merit. Applicants for employment and employees will be protected against
discriminatory actions and practices. Violations of this policy will not be tolerated and will be cause for disciplinary action.
