Graduation
Extras
Remarks by
President / Executive Director Dave Manzo (continued)

Graduation
is time to take stock of educational and personal accomplishments.
Tonight we measure success. In many ways, the world
often measures success the wrong way: where do you
live, how many things to you own, how much money do
you make or how much does your car cost. This is the
wrong way to measure success. To assess the true measure
of success you need to answer the following question:
Did YOU do your BEST with the gifts that YOU were given?
Each of you has special talents. Your families, your
friends and the entire Cotting Community have watched
you succeed, by the true measure of success – making
the most of your God given gifts. Franny, Joe, Etienne
and Tyler are four of the most successful young people
in America.Franny – your gift as a talented artist
brings pleasure to all who see your art pieces. Joe
– your gift of a friendly, outgoing personality make
all that meet you feel welcomed and special. Etienne
– your gift as a talented musician soothes our souls.
Tyler – your gifts as a talented athlete excite all
that watch you.
Each of you has made the most of your gifts and brought
such pleasure to all who cross your paths.Tonight a
new chapter begins in your life - a new chapter for
you and your families. I see this as a time of enormous
possibilities. As you leave us, know that each of us
carries a piece of you in our hearts. Know too that
you will always be members of the Cotting Community.
I hope that you visit us often and that you know we
will be here to help when there are bumps in the road
and to celebrate your future successes.
I want to close the school year with a quote that I
used at the breakfast for new Cotting School parents
in September. It is from a song in the play Les Miserables
and I think that it clearly fits what I see at Cotting
School. The line is: “To love another person is to
see the face of God.” Of course, I don’t pretend to
know what is in each of your hearts or what your beliefs
are, but I do know this, I’ve seen a great deal of
love for the students from this staff and I have witnessed
extraordinary kindness from these graduates. So for
me, in my short time at Cotting, I do believe that
the staff and the students understand the meaning of
- “To love another person is to see the face of God.”
Please join me in congratulating Franny, Joe, Etienne
and Tyler, the Cotting School Class of 2005.
