Department of Education Publishes Cotting Program Review

Cotting School hosted a team of auditors from the Massachusetts Department of Education (DOE) for a program review. Faculty, staff, parents and volunteers were involved in the exhaustive review process.
The team commended Cotting for, among other things, consistently exceeding state requirements in the delivery of services, for the development of curriculum in the "most meaningful way for students," and for the attention paid to individual student needs.
The report consists of 18 compliance criteria, many of which are divided into sub-components for a total of 102 areas of critique. In the 102 areas, Cotting received the following ratings:
-- 18 ratings of "commendable" (implemented in an exemplary manner significantly beyond
the requirements);
-- 79 ratings of "implemented" (requirement or criterion is substantially met);
-- 1 rating of "partially implemented" (requirement in one or several important aspects is not entirely met);
-- 0 ratings of "not implemented" (requirement is totally or substantially not met);
-- and 4 "did not apply."
Cotting developed a corrective action plan to address the 1 "partially implemented" rating, which was given in the area of progress reports.
