Janine
Brown-Smith Named Chief Operating Officer

By
David W. Manzo, President/Executive Director
I am pleased to announce that Janine Brown-Smith has agreed
to assume the position of Chief Operating Officer of
Cotting School. In her new position Janine will oversee and supervise
all programmatic aspects of Cotting School, ISP and Hope
House.
Janine was chosen after an extensive search, which produced a field of very strong
candidates. As you know, Janine has worked for the past four years at Cotting
as the Director of Admissions and the Director of ISP and Hope House. What you
may not know is the entirety of Janine's rich work history. For nearly 20 years
prior to coming to Cotting, Janine worked at a nonprofit agency that provided
services to people with mental retardation and mental illness. She started as
a direct-care worker and worked her way to the position of the comptroller of
the $30 million nonprofit where she supervised the quality management of 70 day
and residential sites as well as assured financial, contractual and regulatory
compliance with multiple state and federal agencies.
Currently, in addition to her work at Cotting, Janine is in her final Semester
at New England School of Law, where she has been on the Dean's List each semester,
is a member of Law Review and is publishing an article on age discrimination.
Janine's references from key members of state government and nonprofit organizations
and respected attorneys, described her with the following comments: "great
instincts and excellent judgment," "seeks out others on important decisions," "enormous
integrity," "good vision and values," "knows how to motivate
a team," and "great problem solver and motivator."
We are fortunate that Janine has accepted the position of Chief Operating Officer.
I hope that you will join with me in congratulating Janine and giving her your
full support.
